Saudi Arabia January-July 2021: Changan up to #5, Toyota Camry best-seller in market up 19.3%

Changan is now inside the Top 5 brands in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi new car market is up 19.3% year-on-year over the first seven months of 2021 to 326.094 units vs. 273.302 over the same period in 2020. Toyota (+20%) just edges past the market growth to improve its share to 28.6% vs. 28.4% last year, but the next three carmakers aren’t that lucky: Hyundai (+11.3%) thaws from 18.3% share last year to 17.1% now, Nissan (+18.6%) stays at 6.6% and Mazda (-10.7%) drops from 6.5% to 4.9%. Changan (+30.9%) is the best performer in the Top 5 as it climbs to a record 5th place overall with 4.5% share, just above Isuzu (+17.9%) and Kia (+0.3%). MG (+72.6%) for its part is the biggest gainer in the Top 10, with Ford (+37.7%) also strong. The Chinese offensive continues beyond the Top 10, with Geely (+593.3%) up 7-fold year-on-year to #13 and 2% share, Haval landing at #14 and 1.9% of the market and Great Wall at #17 with 0.9% now that the company shares sales for the region. Jetour makes its first appearance in the Saudi charts at #33 with its first 102 units. Peugeot (+376%), Genesis (+58%), Mitsubishi (+54.6%) and Suzuki (+45%) also impress.

Model-wise, the Toyota Camry (+24.9%) advances to the pole position in a Top 10 composed of eight sedans and two pickups: the SUV fever has definitely not reached Saudi Arabia just yet. The Hyundai Accent (+19.1%) and Toyota Yaris (+41.7%) complete the podium ahead of the Toyota Hilux (+10.8%) and Hyundai Elantra (-20.8%), leader over the Full Year 2020. The Hyundai Sonata (+172.7%), taking full advantage of the new generation, the Ford Taurus (+82.1%) and Toyota Corolla (+41.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. There is a plethora of recent launches or models that now have official sales further down inside the Top 100. The Haval H6 lands directly at #35 above the Changan Eado Plus (#46), Great Wall Wingle (#49), Geely Tugella (#51), Kia Sonet (#58), Haval H9 (#63), Great Wall Poer (#65), Haval Jolion (#67), Changan Hunter (#76 and pictured above) and Haval H2 (#85).
