Portugal July 2021: Peugeot 2008 returns to #1 in market down -19%

The Peugeot 2008 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in July.

New car sales in Portugal skid down -19% year-on-year in July to just 12.323 units, keeping in mind July 2020 was already down -17.5% on the year prior. The year-to-date volume is now up 17.1% to 93.768 units. Despite falling almost twice as fast as the market, Renault (-37.1%) remains in the brands top spot with 9.5% share, distancing Peugeot (-32.5%) at 9%. Peugeot however stays in the YTD pole position. Excellent showing for BMW (+15.6%) climbing onto the podium at #3 this month whereas Mercedes (-34%), although up five spots on June, is down significantly. Five of the six remaining Top 10 brands brilliantly post year-on-year gains, with Kia (+51.1%) the most dynamic above Hyundai (+44.7%), Dacia (+15.7%) and Volkswagen (+5%). Only Toyota (-11.4%) is down but above the market fall rate. Further down, Skoda (+109.3%), Mitsubishi (+62.2%) and Lexus (+4.3%) post rare gains while Cupra advances one spot to #25.

Model-wise, the Peugeot 2008 (-17.2%) is up four spots on last month to sign its third victory of the year (and ever) at 3.2% share. It edges past the Renault Clio (-53.85) while the VW T-Roc (+238.1%) shoots up 32 spots on June to land in third place. Only 13 units separate the #3 from the #1 in July. The Mercedes A-Class (-56.2%) implodes year-on-year but is up 11 ranks on last month to #4, equal with the Dacia Sandero (+39.7%) in outstanding shape. All remaining Top 10 models post double-digit gains, with the Hyundai i20 (+74.1%) the most impressive ahead of the BMW 1 Series (+43.3%), Peugeot 3008 (+31.7%), Seat Ibiza (+28.9%) and Renault Megane (+11.7%). Still #1 year-to-date, the Renault Captur (-41.3%) is down 10 spots on June to #12 while the Peugeot 208 (-69.2%), now #4 YTD is down 24 ranks to #31. The Citroen C4 is the best-selling recent launch at #20 above the Hyundai Bayon (#26) and the Dacia Spring (#50) breaking into the Top 50 for the first time.
