Vietnam June 2021: VinFast crosses 10% share milestone for the first time in market down -1.7%

The VinFast Fadil is now #1 year-to-date in Vietnam.

According to data published by VAMA, the Vietnamese new vehicle market is down -1.7% year-on-year in June to 23.587 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 40.4% to 150.481. However these figures climb to 32.662 (+2.8%) for the month and 200.162 (+43.5%) year-to-date once adding Hyundai and VinFast who report sales separately. 

In the brands ranking, Hyundai (-1%) almost matches the market to remain in pole position with 17% share ahead of Thaco-Kia (+7.6%) at 16% and Toyota (+15%) at 15.7%, both vastly outperforming the market. The hero of the month is VinFast surging 62.1% year-on-year to cross the 10% share milestone for the first time at 10.8%. In the remainder of the Top 10, only Suzuki (+56.5%) manages an uptick, leaving Honda (-51.4%), Mitsubishi (-36.8%), Ford (-35.1%) and Mazda (-28%) stranded.

Model-wise, the VinFast Fadil (+87.1%), a rebadged Opel Karl Rocks, repeats at #1 with a record 7.8% share thanks to a new monthly volume record at 2.552. The Toyota Vios (+10.6%) edges up to remain in 2nd place above the Hyundai Accent (+17.9%). The VinFast Fadil is now #1 year-to-date ahead of the Accent and Vios. The Kia Cerato (+26.7%) ranks 4th for the month vs. #12 year-to-date and the Hyundai Santa Fe (+61.5%) remains at #5 vs. #10 so far this year. The Toyota Corolla Cross is up four spots on May to #6 while the Kia Seltos is down two to #8, these two nameplates topping the recent launches charts.
