Vietnamese new vehicle sales display a stunning 43% growth rate in 2014 to 157,810 registrations. Of these, 57,371 (+42%) are trucks and 100,439 (+43%) are passenger cars. Toyota dominates the brands ranking once again but drops a worrying four percentage points compared to 2013 at 25.9%, with Thaco-Kia starting to breathe on the Japanese manufacturer’s neck at 20.8% share vs. 21.9% in 2013, mainly thanks to its medium-heavy commercial vehicles. This year’s big winner in Vietnam is Ford up a fantastic 71% to 13,988 sales and 8.9% share partly thanks to the Ranger leaping up 161% to 5th place.
The Toyota Fortuner ranks #2 in Vietnam in 2014.
Thanks to the new generation’s launch this year and sales consequently up 79% to 9,187 deliveries, the Toyota Vios becomes the best-selling nameplate in Vietnam for the first time, dislodging the Toyota Fortuner (+6%) and Innova (+31%) while the Corolla Altis makes the Top Four 100% Toyota like in 2013. Notice the explosive performances of the Kia K3 up to #9 for its first full year in market, the Honda City doubling its sales to #10, the Mazda CX-5 up 136% to #11, Mazda3 up 89% to #13, Mazda BT-50 up 186% to #14 and the Toyota Yaris up 250% to #17. The Ford Ecosport at #20 and Nissan Sunny at #23 are the most successful new nameplates of 2014 in Vietnam.
