The Tiggo 4 helps Chery repeat at a record 6th place in Ukraine in May.
New car sales in Ukraine soar 43.3% year-on-year in May to 8.446 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 32.6% to 39.564. Note May 2021 volumes are also up significantly on two years ago in May 2019 at +21.6% while the year-to-date volume is up 22.9% on the same period in 2019. The Top 4 brands are unchanged on last month, with Toyota (+9.4%), Renault (+25.4%) and Kia (-6.3%) keeping the lead despite all underperforming and losing share. In contrast Skoda (+115.9%) and Nissan (+157.8%) surge up and Chery (+239.7%) remains at a record 6th place with 4.9% share, missing out on a first ever Top 5 finish by just 4 units. The remainder of the Top 10 all beat the market, with Volkswagen (+438.4%) the most dynamic ahead of Peugeot (+74.4%), Mazda (+65.1%) and Hyundai (+61.7%). Notice also the arrivals of Chinese EV makers Weltmeister and NIO in the Ukrainian charts with two and one unit sold respectively.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota RAV4 (-8.9%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date despite losing ground year-on-year to 5.6% share vs. 6.5% so far in 2021. The Renault Duster (+8.2%) is also up one spot on April to #2 overall with 5% share vs. 5.3% YTD. Leader last month, the Kia Sportage drops to #3 and 4.9% share but remains in 2nd place YTD above the Duster. The Nissan Qashqai (+313.8%) soars 6 spots on April to land in 4th place, distancing the Renault Sandero (+46.2%) and Logan (+23.7%). All remaining Top 10 models vastly outperform the market starting with the VW Touareg (+2055.6%) and also including the Toyota Camry (+145.6%), Mazda CX-5 (+132.6%) and Skoda Kodiaq (+69%). Further down, the Chery Tiggo 4 (+4500%), Toyota Highlander (+950%) and Skoda Karoq (+619.2%) make waves. The Chery Jetour X70 (#36) and Renault Arkana (#49) top recent launches (<12 months) ahead of the Hyundai Venue (#94), Chery Tiggo 7 Pro (#96) and JAC S4 (#97).
