Finland May 2021: Toyota Corolla best-seller in market up 95.2%

The Toyota Corolla is the most successful model in Finland in May.

The Finnish new car market bounces back up 95.2% year-on-year in May to 9.590 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally up 18.3% to 45.590. Brand leader Toyota (+94.8%) matches the market and remains at #1 with 14% share. Volkswagen (+173.8%) surges ahead and climbs two spots on April to #2, a ranking it now also holds year-to-date, passing Skoda (+164.7%) also in outstanding shape this month. Volvo (+282.9%) scores the largest gain in the Top 30 but drops two ranks on last month to #4. Audi (+156.5%), Peugeot (+111.1%) and BMW (+110.7%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10, while further down Seat (+237.8%), Porsche (+153.3%), Fiat (+118.2%), Hyundai (+114.9%) and Citroen (+106.5%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+158.3%) signs its first win since last October at 5.5% share vs. 4.8% so far this year. It topples the Skoda Octavia (+194%) which however remains in the year-to-date lead by 63 sales. The Toyota Yaris (+93.8%) rounds out the podium as it does year-to-date. Below are two surging Volvos: the XC60 is up a whopping 700% year-on-year and the XC40 up 336.7%. These are the two largest gains in the Top 8. The VW Golf (+218.2%) also impresses at #6 ahead of the Toyota RAV4 (+91.1%). The VW ID.4 breaks into the Finnish Top 10 this month, landing at #8 and distancing the VW Tiguan up a surreal 765.2% year-on-year. Below, the BMW 3 Series (+273.8%), Seat Leon (+247.5%), Skoda Kamiq (+238.5%) and Volvo V60 (+229.3%) make themselves noticed.
