Yemen January-April 2021: Toyota Hilux surges, Land Rover returns in market up 22.6%

The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in Yemen so far this year.

New car sales in Yemen are up 22.6% year-on-year over the first four months of 2021 to 2.835 units. Toyota remains ultra-dominant but sees its share edge down a little to 93.2% vs. 96.8% over the Full Year 2020. Part of the reason behind this slight drop is the return in market of Land Rover at 3.6% share. Lexus comes in third place with 1.5% share and none of the four remaining brands in market manages more than 0.7% share… Indeed Yemen is a one-dimensional market at the moment. Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux surges to 45.4% share vs. 32.7% over FY2020 and steps into pole position. The Toyota Land Cruiser is toppled to #2 with 24.2% share vs. 37.3% in 2020 while the Toyota Land Cruiser pickup remains in third place ahead of the Toyota Fortuner and Prado. The Land Rover Defender lands directly at #6.
