Russia April 2021: Haval confirms Top 10 finish in market up 2.5% on two years ago

Haval is inside the Russian Top 10 for the second month running.

New car sales in Russia surge 290.4% year-on-year in April to 151.964 units as year-ago volumes were down -72.4% because of the local lockdown. April 2020 is also up on April 2019 at +2.5% on the 148.296 units sold two years ago. The year-to-date tally is now up 24.3% to 515.934 and down -4.5% on the same period in 2019. The four best-selling brands all outpace the market as they were particularly affected by the year-ago lockdown. Lada is up 303.7% to 25% share vs. 23.6% so far this year, Kia is up 340.7%, Hyundai up 538.2% and Renault up 345.2%. Below, Skoda, Volkswagen, Toyota, GAZ and Nissan can’t match the market growth.

In 10th place, Haval (+606.1%) scores the largest gain in the Top 10 and confirms its newfound status as one of the ten best-selling carmakers in Russia. Note Haval is the only Chinese manufacturer to have achieved this feat. Haval breaks both its volume and share records for the second month running at 3.001 and 2%. Keep in mind BMW and Mercedes don’t share monthly volumes anymore as they only report quarterly and would traditionally rank inside the Top 10. Chery (+1162.7%) also breaks its volume ranking at 2.980 and equals its ranking (#11) and share (2%) records. Mitsubishi (+1134.5%), Peugeot (+967.1%), Infiniti (+936.4%), Volvo (+869.6%), Citroen (+740%) and Subaru (+547.9%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 30.

Over in the models ranking, the Lada Granta (+359.5%) outpaces the market to reach 9.2% share vs. 8.6% so far this year, it is followed by the Lada Vesta (+283.7%) which reclaims the 2nd spot year-to-date off the Kia Rio (+302.8%) at #3. The Hyundai Creta (+497.4%) remains in 4th place above the Lada Niva (+205.1%) which now includes the Lada 4×4 and ex Chevrolet Niva. The Hyundai Solaris (+756.2%) surges ahead, the Skoda Rapid PA II is up one spot on March to #8 and the Renault Duster returns inside the Top 10 thanks to the new generation at #10. The Kia K5 (#14) is the other recent launch inside the Top 15, while the Hyundai Santa Fe breaks into the Russian Top 25 for the very first time at #22.
