Qatar January-April 2021: Nissan Patrol teases Toyota Land Cruiser, Land Rover Defender in Top 10
The Land Rover Defender ranks #7 in Qatar so far in 2021.
The Qatari new car market edges down -0.6% year-on-year over the first four months of 2021 to 13.398 sales. Although still leader by a great margin, Toyota loses significant ground so far in 2021, holding 27.1% share vs. 35.9% over the Full Year 2020. In contrast Nissan is up from 13.6% to 14.8% and Kia up from 6.1% to 7.4%. Mitsubishi is up to 6.6% share and closes out a Top 4 unchanged on FY2020. The next three brands make tremendous progress in the 2021 Qatari charts: GMC is up 4 spots to #5, Chevrolet up five to #6 and Land Rover up six to #7. They reshuffle the lower end of the Top 10 with Lexus down three ranks to #8 and MG down two to #9 despite gaining share at 3.9%. Honda is up two spots to round out the Top 10 while Hyundai, Suzuki and Ford are knocked out.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser remains the best-seller but almost halves its market share compared to FY2020 from 14.8% to 7.6%. Its archenemy the Nissan Patrol for its part almost doubles its share from 3.8% to 7.3% and only 46 units below the Land Cruiser. The Toyota Hilux is down one spot on FY2020 to #3, distancing the Toyota Hiace up two to #4 and the Lexus LX remaining at #5. Below the Nissan Sunny down three ranks to #6, the hero of the period is the Land Rover Defender up 30 spots on FY2020 to land at a world-best 7th place with 2.4% share. It sells more over four months in 2021 than during the entire 2020 year. The Toyota Yaris, GMC Sierra and Mitsubishi L200 round out the Top 10.
