Romania February 2021: Dacia crashes (-48.9%), Jeep stuns (+543.8%) in market down -22.1%

The Dacia Sandero ranks #2 in February at home in Romania.

The Romanian new car market is down -22.1% year-on-year in February to 6.887 sales, a clear improvement on the 51.9% of January. The year-to-date volume is now down -39.5% to 12.892 units. Homegrown behemoth Dacia (-48.9%) loses almost half its year-ago sales to fall to 16.1% share vs. 15.7% so far this year. Hyundai (-4.1%) climbs up two spots on last month to #2 ahead of Skoda (-20.2%) while Ford (+21.3%) and Toyota (+17%) ignore the depressed market conditions to round out the Top 5 in splendid fashion. BMW (+13.9%) also impresses in the remainder of the Top 10 while just outside, Jeep (+543.8%) and Citroen (+122.7%) post surreal gains.

Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (-55.8%) freefalls despite the arrival of the new generation while the Dacia Sandero (-23.5%) is back up three spots on last month to #2 and the Skoda Octavia (-35.6%) is up seven to #3. Outstanding performances by the Jeep Compass (+1977.8%), Ford Puma (+570.6%), Suzuki Vitara (+99%) and Hyundai Tucson (+64.8%) in the remainder of the Top 10 with the Toyota Corolla (+11%) also very solid. Reversely, the Dacia Duster (-66.7%) loses two-thirds of its year-ago volume and ranks at #7 vs. #2 over the Full Year 2020.
