The Dutch new car market is down -26.3% year-on-year in February to 21.862 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally down -22.7% to 56.933 units. Kia (-31.4%) is up three spots on January to return to the #1 brand ranking for the first time since last August, distancing Peugeot (-15.8%) improving its share to 8%. Leader last month, Volkswagen (-35.1%) drops to third place in February ahead of Toyota (-25.7%) and Ford (-20.6%) both just outpacing the market. Skoda (+2.8%) and Volvo (+1.7%) are the only year-on-year gainers in the Top 10, while Opel (-45.7%) and BMW (-35.3%) both struggle. Further down, Jeep (+181.6%), MG (+133.3%), Mazda (+75.6%), Dacia (+34%), Smart (+11.1%) and Audi (+4.9%) impress.

The models ranking has a new leader for the month: cannibalised by the Puma in most European markets, the Ford Fiesta (-5.8%) still finds life in the Netherlands and is February’s best-seller above the Kia Picanto (-16.8%). Leader last month and YTD, the Volvo XC40 (+100.7%) is down to #3 this month but continues to evolve well above its year-ago levels, exactly doubling its February 2020 volume. The Toyota Aygo (-7.7%) is up 11 spots on January to #4 while the Opel Corsa (+37.9%) is up 12 to #5 and signs the only year-on-year gain in the Top 5. The Peugeot 2008 (+321.9%) is up 4-fold year-on-year to #9 while the Skoda Octavia (+72.2%) and Renault Captur (+24.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10.
