New car sales in Serbia fall -22.7% year-on-year in 2020 to 26.601 units vs. 34.412 in 2019. Local publisher Vrele Gume has the market at 26.165 units. Brand-wise, Skoda (-30.7%) and Fiat (-33.9%) remain on top but fall markedly faster than the market, resulting in lower shares at 15.6% and 13.8% respectively. Renault (+16.2%) on the other hand is up frankly and steps up one spot on last year to land on the podium, dislodging Volkswagen (-29.1%). Dacia (-27%) makes it four underperforming brands in the Top 5. In contrast, Mercedes (-10.6%) and Toyota (-16.9%) resist ok and advance to #9 and #6 respectively. Further down, Porsche (+83.7%), Seat (+68.3%), Jeep (+51.4%), Kia (+12.7%) and Volvo (+9.8%) are among rare gainers.

We have a new leader in the models ranking: despite peaking towards the end of the year (#7 in November and December), the Renault Clio (+76.7%) surges up 8 spots on 2019 to snap the annual pole position away from the Skoda Octavia (-17.9%). The Octavia had dominated the past two years in Serbia and still improves its share this year from 4.4% to 4.7% vs. 4.9% for the Clio. Note the Clio is the first Renault to top the Serbian charts in recent times, the pole position since 2007 having been held by either a Zastava, a Fiat or a Skoda. The Skoda Fabia (-26.5%) also steps down one spot to #3, distancing a previous annual winner, the Fiat 500L (+11%) rallying back up 3 ranks to #4. The Fiat Tipo (-29.2%) and Dacia Sandero (-24%) are both down two spots to #5 and #6. We have three newcomers in the Top 10 this year: the Opel Astra at #7, the Renault Megane at #9 and the Nissan Qashqai at #10.
