The Argentinean new vehicle market drops -25.5% year-on-year in 2020 to 342.474 units due to the coronavirus crisis. Despite this ghastly drop, the brands ranking is relatively stable vs. 2019. Volkswagen (-17.7%) improves its share from 15.1% to 16.7%, but Toyota (-32.9%) and Renault (-32.1%) both lose share. Fiat (-11%) scores the best hold atop the charts and gains two spots to #4, overtaking Chevrolet (-31.2%) and Ford (-36.3%). Jeep (-9.9%) secures the only single digit loss in the Top 10. Further down, Ram (+65.6%), JAC (+5.1%), Audi (+4.4%) and Scania (+4.4%) stand out with gains.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-24%) signs a third consecutive win and fourth win in the past 5 years, roughly following the market to 5.6% share. The Chevrolet Onix (+0.4%) edges up one spot to #2 and best-selling Passenger Car for the first time while the Fiat Cronos (+49.9%) lurches up 8 spots to land on the third step of the podium, only 11 sales below the Onix. The VW Gol (+7.3%) and Amarok (+2.3%) both post market-defying gains and close out the Top 5. Launched in 2019, the VW T-Cross (+167.2%) breaks into the Argentinean Top 10 for its first full year in market at #10. Its coupe version, the VW Nivus, is the best-selling 2020 launch at #51.
