Mexico September 2020: Kia again breaks share record, this time to 8.7%, sales stuck in hell (-22.8%)
The Seltos (#11) helps Kia to a new share record in September in Mexico.
The Mexican new light vehicle market is stuck in hell with September volumes off another -22.8% year-on-year to 77.784 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -30.5% to 664.218. Brand leader Nissan (-10.7%) once again resists much better and improves its share to 21.9% vs. 20.6% so far this year. Chevrolet (-41.7%) and Volkswagen (-25.1%) in contrast lose share year-on-year but retain their podium spots. Kia (-11.8%) continues its relentless march to the top, breaking its all-time share record for the 2nd month running at 8.7% and advancing to a best-ever 4th place for the first time in 2020 and the fourth time overall after April, May and October 2019. But it’s Mazda (-4.8%) that manages the best hold in the Top 10, with Honda (-14.5%) and Renault (-15%) also strong but Toyota (-40.2%), Hyundai (-32.8%) and Ford (-24%) struggle. Further down, Fiat (+50.3%), Volvo (+38.4%), Subaru (+25.5%), GMC (+19.6%), Audi (+8.3%) and Chrysler (+8%) score the only gains in market.
Model-wise, Nissan monopolises the podium for the second month running with the Versa (+29.7%), March (+7.9%) and Pickup (-34.8%), with the Chevrolet Beat (-40.1%) and Kia Rio (-9.5%) rounding out the Top 5 like last month. The Mazda3 (-5.1%) and VW Jetta (-10.8%) also resist in the remainder of the Top 10 where the Chevrolet Onix drops two spots on August to #8. The Kia Seltos is up 4 rank to a highest ever #11 also hit last January. Among other recent launches, the Chevrolet Tracker is up 41 spots to #23, the VW T-Cross up 3 to #26, the Mazda CX-30 down 4 to #31, the Land Rover Defender down 63 to #238 and the Ford Bronco Sport down 38 to #293.
