The Chevrolet Onix remains the most popular vehicle in Colombia.
25/08 update: Now with Top 30 brands and Top 75 models.
Colombia has added almost 265.000 new Covid-19 cases over the past month alone, with total cases now nearing 400.000 (as of August 11 when this article was first published) vs. just 134.000 a month ago. As a result, the country has returned to strict lockdown measures and the economy has closed down again. Therefore new vehicle sales in Colombia remain stuck in hell in July at -36.8% year-on-year to just 14.481 units, pulling the year-to-date volume down -37.6% to 86.786. Brand leader Renault (-44.5%) skids down faster than the market but remains above Chevrolet (-35.2%) with 21.5% share vs. 19% for the American brand. Mazda (-31.2%) resists ok to step up to #3, distancing Nissan (-43.8%) and Kia (-45.5%). Although it drops 3 spots on June to #6, Toyota (-27.8%) sports the best hold in the Top 8, but it’s at the tail end of the Top 10 that we have the best performances: Suzuki (-19.7%) limits its fall while Foton (+24.6%) is the only Top 10 carmaker in positive, also breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #10. A newcomer inside the Top 20 is Colombian EV maker Oransh landing at #19 with just under 100 sales.
Oransh breaks into its home Top 20 for the first time.
The Chevrolet Onix (-9.1%) resists much better than the market, remaining the best-selling vehicle in the country for the 4th consecutive month and the 6th time in the past 8 months, also cementing its YTD lead at 4.4% share vs. 3.4% for the Renault Sandero at #2. The Renault Kwid (-8.2%) also resists very well at #2 for the month, distancing the Renault Duster (-40.5%), Sandero Stepway (-42.3%) and Sandero (-57.6%). The new Mazda CX-30 drops one spot on June to a still outstanding 9th place, while further down the Foton BJ (#12), Toyota Hilux (-4.3%), Chevrolet NHR (+15.6%) and JAC HFC (+24.2%) stand out while the Oransh M2 High Speed appears just outside the Top 40 at #41.
