Turkey June 2020: Skoda Scala lands at #9, Fiat hits highest share in a decade in euphoric market (+66.3%)

The Skoda Scala lands directly at #7 in the June Passenger Cars ranking.

31/07 update: Now with June Top 25 models.

13/07 update: Now with June Top 10 models and H1 Top 80 models.

It’s definitely a seesaw year for Turkish new vehicle sales and June volumes bring their lot of good news with registrations up a fantastic 66.3% year-on-year to 70.973 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 30.2% to 254.068. To be fair, Turkey car registrations were in the midst of a searing slump in 2018-2019 which somewhat biases year-on-year comparisons, pre-crisis levels for June were 83.658 in 2017.

Fiat is up to 20.6% share in Turkey thanks to sales up 122.9%.

Fiat (+122.9%) almost double the already galloping market growth to establish itself at 20.6% share, its highest level in at least 10 years, eclipsing the 20.3% it hit last December and snapping the YTD top spot off Renault (+65.6%) matching the market this month to 17.5% share. Citroen (+329.5%) scores another otherworldly lift, the largest in the Top 10 – and Top 20, with Opel (+137.6%), Skoda (+122.4%), Dacia (+93.5%) and Ford (+73%) also having the time of their life in the remainder of the Top 10. In contrast Volkswagen (+1.7%) and Toyota (+2.8%) vastly underperform. Beyond the Top 10, Ssangyong (+506.1%), Lexus (+466.7%), Kia (+310.5%), Smart (+300%), Subaru (+171.9%), Audi (+148.1%), Land Rover (+133.3%), Jeep (+118.5%) and Suzuki (+118.4%) all post extravagant gains.

In the models ranking, the Fiat Egea (+87.2%) is up to its highest market share so far in 2020 at 12.8%, distancing the Renault Clio (+57.8%) at 9.5% and the Renault Megane (+102.2%) at 6.6%. Below, the Fiat Doblo (+216%) and Ford Transit/Tourneo Courier (+96%), the Toyota Corolla (-4%) rallies back up 7 spots on last month to #6 but can’t quite match its June 2019 volume, while the Honda Civic (+25.4%) is down three to #7 and the Dacia Duster (+89.9%) is up 7 to #8. The Skoda Scala posts a spectacular launch in Turkey, landing directing in 9th place overall. The Audi A3 (+132.9%), VW Passat (+94.8%) and Opel Corsa (#14) also shine in the remainder of the Top 15.
