Puerto Rico (USA) First Half 2020: Toyota RAV4 holds 9% of market off -38.4%
The Toyota RAV4 cements its leadership position in Puerto Rico.
New light vehicle sales in Puerto Rico are off -38.4% year-on-year over the First Half of 2020 to 31.781 units. Toyota (-34.5%) resists slightly better and sees its market share cross the symbolic 30% in the process, going from 28.8% a year ago to 30.6%. Hyundai (-43%) on the other hand drops to 13.6% while sister brand Kia (-48.1%) endures the steepest fall in the Top 20 and owes its spot on the podium to just 37 sales above Ford (-35.6%) up one to #4. Ram (-22.6%) fares best in the Top 10 with Honda (-33.5%), Mitsubishi (-34.7%) and BMW (-37.5%) also outpacing the market. Below, Bentley (+233.3%), Lamborghini (+80%), Audi (+22.3%) and Dodge (+5.4%) are the only carmakers in positive over the period.
Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 (-174%) cements its lead and pushes up over two percentage points of share to hit a round 9%, leaving the Toyota Yaris (-37.8%) in the dust at 6.5%. The Hyundai Tucson (-37.9%) and Toyota Tacoma (-38.4%) ensure the Top 4 is unchanged on H1 2019 while the Toyota Corolla (-14.6%) takes advantage of the new generation to gain 4 spots and break into the Top 5. The Ford F-Series (-25.4%) also impresses with a somewhat contained loss and gains 8 spots to #7 while the Nissan Versa (-35.5%) returns inside the Top 10 and the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (-7%) leaps up 12 to #12. The Hyundai Venue (#19) and Kia Seltos (#21) are instant blockbusters in Puerto Rico while the Jeep Gladiator (#39) brilliantly lands inside the Top 40
