Kenya Full Year 2019: Toyota Hilux reclaims top spot in market down -7.3%
The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in Kenya in 2019.
The Kenyan new vehicle market takes a breather in 2019 at -7.3% to 12.981 units. Isuzu (+12.1%) swims upstream with the largest gain in the Top 6, resulting in a much improved share at 38.4%, albeit this is mainly due to strong medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales. Meanwhile archenemy Toyota (-10.9%) slides down to 25.5% share, while Mitsubishi (+2.7%) is up to 14.3% share to round out the podium. No other manufacturers manages to grab over 4.5% of the Kenyan market, with Mercedes (+36.7%) and Scania (+4.4%) the only improving ones in the remainder of the Top 10.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+3%) remains above it archenemy the Isuzu TFS/TFS aka D-Max (-2.1%) and reclaim the annual pole position for the 4th time in the past 5 years, toppling last year’s leader, the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup (-55.2%). The Hiace (+51.8%) and Prado (-12.7%) make it four Toyotas in the Top 5. The Toyota Fortuner (+8.2%) is solid in 9th place just as the Toyota Rush (+172.3%) breaks into the Top 10 for its first full year in market.
