Italy Full Year 2018: Exclusive Top 20 models ranking for all 20 regions

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is up to #4 in Valle d’Aosta.

After Spain, we now delve into another very rare set of data: Top 20 models by sales volume for each Italian region. Again this is 2018 data with all corresponding 2017 figures, and 2019 figures should become available towards the end of H1 2020. As a reminder in 2018 the best-selling vehicles in Italy were the Fiat Panda, Renault Clio, Fiat 500X, Lancia Ypsilon and Jeep Renegade. The detail by region is a lot more “predictable” than it was for Spain, with the Fiat Panda the best-seller in 19 out of 20 regions and the only nameplate to appear in every region’s Top 5 (and Top 2). The only other model to top one Italian region in 2018 is the Fiat Tipo, #1 in Piemonte. All other regions are easily won by the Fiat Panda except Sardegna where it only has a 51-unit advantage over the #2, the Renault Clio.

The regions of Italy. The Fiat Panda (19) and Fiat Tipo (1) are the only regional winners in 2018.

The Lancia Ypsilon is the nameplate racking up the most #2 finishes (8), followed by the Renault Clio (3) and Fiat 500X (2) with the Citroen C3 (Campania), Ford Kuga (Molise) despite ranking #32 nationally, Toyota Yaris (Lazio), VW Golf (Trentino) and VW Polo (Liguria) all scoring one #2 finish, their highest ranking in any region. The Ford Fiesta, Dacia Sandero, Fiat 500, Fiat 500L and Jeep Compass also appear on the podium of at least one region. Apart from the Ford Kuga (#32), only two nameplates ranking outside the national 2018 Top 20 manage to snap a Top 5 regional finish: the  Alfa Romeo Stelvio (#45) at #4 in Valle d’Aosta and the Opel Corsa (#24) at #5 in Molise.
