The Finnish new car market steps up 2.1% year-on-year in February to 8.118 units, one of the rare European markets so far to inch a year-on-year gain this month. The year-to-date tally remains in negative however at -4.1% to 18.793 registrations. Toyota (+31.4%) continues to evolve in the brands ranking stratosphere at 15.8% share vs. 10.2% for the #2 Volkswagen (-6.4%) while Skoda (-20.6%) is hit hard at #3. BMW (+90.9%) lodges by far the most impressive year-on-year gain in the Top 10, ranking #7, Mercedes (+6.1%), Volvo (+5.8%) and Kia (+5%) also manage an uptick in the Top 10 but Ford (-23.7%), Opel (-6%) and Nissan (-4.7%) aren’t that lucky. Below, the Frenchies are on fire with Citroen (+115.4%), Renault (+81.5%) and Peugeot (+46.1%) posting the largest gains in the remainder of the Top 20. Suzuki (+25.9%) and Audi (+17.6%) are also in outstanding shape.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Corolla (+2950%) continues to dominate the Finnish charts head-and-shoulders, clocking in a 7th win in the past 8 months. The Skoda Octavia (-24.8%) and Toyota Yaris (-20.4%) close out the podium like last month while the Ford Focus (-34.5%) overtakes the Nissan Qashqai (-14.9%) to rank #4 overall. The VW Golf (-30.3%) is back up 12 spots on January to #6 and the BMW 5 Series (+217.2%) triples its sales year-on-year and surges 17 ranks on last month to #8. 1 sale off the Top 10, the Citroen C3 (+212.7%) is up 15 spots to #11, the Kia Rio (+183.7%) up 18 to #14, the Opel Crossland X (#20) and Grandland X (#22) are both up 21 ranks on January.
