Oman Full Year 2019: Toyota Land Cruiser reclaims lead in market down -11.2%

The Omani new car market endures a second consecutive double-digit year-on-year drop in 2019 at -11.2% to 110.112 units. Toyota (-5.7%) contains its loss to half that of the market and as a result improves from 50.1% to 53.2% share. In contrast, the rest of the podium implies, with Nissan (-31.5%) and Hyundai (-15.5%) in dire straits. There are bright lights in the Top 10: Lexus (+8.7%), Isuzu (+8.4%), Chevrolet (+6.8%) and Mazda (+1%) all manage a year-on-year gain, whereas Jeep (-29.8%), Mitsubishi (-15.5%) and Kia (-15.2%) sink. Further down, MG (+325.9%) is up 10 spots to #13, Renault (+46.2%) is up 3 to #12, with Peugeot (+2450%), Jaguar (+83.9%), Infiniti (+41.1%), Land Rover (+20%), Hino (+16.8%) and Dodge (+11.8%) also posting spectacular improvements.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-2.5%) reclaims the top spot off the Nissan Patrol (-46.9%) – itself down to #4 – and signs a second win in the past 3 years. Toyota monopolises the podium with the Hilux (+1.7%) and Land Cruiser Pickup (-2.9%) while Nissan plans the Sunny (+43.2%) at #5 like in 2018. Toyota holds all remaining spots in the Top 10 with the Corolla (+6.2%) and Yaris (+5.3%) singing an uptick, the Fortuner (-1.6%) and Prado (-3.8%) resisting better than the market but the Camry (-16.6%) diving. Below, the Infiniti QX80 (+133.2%), Lexus GX (+62.7%), Toyota Rush (+34.9%), Hyundai Creta (+33.6%), Toyota Coaster (+32%), Toyota Avalon (+28.1%) and Mazda6 (+27.8%) all shine. The MG5 (#64) is the best-selling 2019 launch above the Lexus UX (#68) and MG6 (#69).
