Finland January 2020: Toyota Corolla reclaims lead in market down -8.3%
The Toyota Corolla is #1 in Finland for the 6th time in the past 7 months.

The Finnish new car market remains depressed in this start of 2020 with January registrations down another -8.3% to 10.672 units after January 2019 endured a -13.7% drop. The brands ranking returns to more normalcy after a December based by artificial pre-EU CO2 emissions rushed sales. Toyota (+5%) and Kia (+1%) score the only year-on-year gains at each end of the Top 5, whereas Ford (-28.6%), Skoda (-25.1%) and Volvo (-12.1%) suffer. Mercedes is stable at #7 while BMW (+48.8%) surges to #8 with the largest gain in the Top 20. Citroen (+35.2%), Audi (+22%), Hyundai (+16.6%) and Mitsubishi (+9.2%) also shine while further down Porsche (+660%), Lexus (+103.7%), Tesla (+68.8%), Mini (+21.1%) and Land Rover (+19%) stand out. The Renault Group was the main culprit of December artificial sales, and accordingly gets trashed this month: Renault is down -89.6% on December and goes from #1 to #17 while Dacia implodes -90.6% from #9 to #31.
In the models ranking, the Toyota Corolla (+2712.5%) resumes its H2 2019 domination, a period where it led the monthly charts for 5 consecutive months from July to November, only interrupted by the Renault Clio in December, placing itself ideally for an annual win in 2020. The Skoda Octavia (-31.3%) ranks #2 and is still waiting for the new generation to hit dealerships. The Toyota Yaris (-0.7%), Nissan Qashqai (-22%) and Ford Focus (-38%) round out the Top 5, with the VW T-Roc (+57%) and Toyota RAV4 (+11.5%) also posting solid performances in the Top 10. The VW T-Cross (#13) and Skoda Scala (#17) are the two new launches brilliantly making it into the January Top 20, and the Audi A4 (+206.7%), VW Passat (+140.7%), BMW 3 Series (+89.2%), Opel Insignia (+61.2%) and Kia Rio (+37.2%) are among the best performers further down.
