Portugal October 2019: Mercedes A-Class snaps 4th straight win, BMW 3 Series up to #7

The BMW 3 Series is at its highest in Portugal in almost 5 years.

The Portuguese new car market lifts 12.2% year-on-year in October on weak year-ago post-WLTP volumes to 15.649 units, leading to a year-to-date tally now down -3.5% to 189.673. Peugeot (+9.2%) overtakes Renault (+19.8%) to reclaim the lead of the brands ranking for the second time in the past 3 months, while Mercedes (+23.2%) remains very solid in third place with 9.1% share vs. 7.4% YTD. BMW (+20.3%) is up 4 spots on last month to #4, distancing Citroen (+4.9%), Volkswagen (+8.9%) and Seat (+35.1%) with Fiat (+19.8%) also outpacing the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Porsche (+2775%), DS (+173.1%), Jeep (+72.7%), Kia (+54.6%), Lexus (+43.9%), Dacia (+43.5%), Audi (+42.4%), Hyundai (+37.1%) and Jaguar (+34.7%) also shine. In contrast, Tesla implodes -97.6% on September to just 7 sales.

Model-wise, the Mercedes A-Class (+46.4%) strikingly manages a 4th consecutive month in pole position with 4.6% share but remains #2 year-to-date, definitely out-of-reach of the Renault Clio (+30.3%). The Peugeot 308 (+67.1%) leaps up 6 spots on last month to climb onto the October podium ahead of the Renault Megane (+124.3%), Peugeot 2008 (-12.6%) and Ford Focus (+52.9%). The rest of the Top 10 entirely outruns the market, starting with BMW 3 Series (+225.2%) shooting up 29 ranks on last month to #7 – its highest ranking since December 2014 (#7 also) – alongside the Seat Arona (+65.3%), Citroen C3 (+32.6%) and Peugeot 3008 (+17.2%).
