Mexico August 2019: Renault (+19.8%), Suzuki (+23.7%), Volvo (+46.2%) defy 26th market drop in past 27 months
The new Kwid helps Renault up 19.8% in Mexico this month.
The Mexican new vehicle market is down for the 26th time in the past 27 months in August at -9.3% to 107.664 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -6.8% to 852.051. As usual brand leader Nissan (-13.6%) falls faster than the market to 20.9% share, joined by #2 Chevrolet (-18.9%) down to 14.8% share while Volkswagen (-8.8%) ensures the August podium is entirely in negative. Toyota (+5.5%) and Kia (+0.1%) however buck the trend in the remainder of the Top 5 with Kia hitting its highest volume since last March (8.045) and highest share since last May (7.5%). Renault (+19.8%) is the biggest gainer in the Top 10 just as Ford (-12.2%), Hyundai (-11.6%) and Honda (-11.1%) all fall by the double-digits. Below, Volvo (+46.2%), Suzuki (+23.7%), Mercedes (+17.6%), Acura (+16.8%), Jaguar (+13.8%), Subaru (+7.8%) and Peugeot (+7.2%) impress.
Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (-14.3%) is not yet feeling the benefits of the launch of a new generation but nevertheless manages to keep the lead with 6.7% share vs. 6.3% YTD, distancing the Chevrolet Aveo (-25.9%). The Nissan Pickup (+8%) and Chevrolet Beat (+9.6%) show great resolve just below, while the Kia Rio (+21.2%) posts the largest uptick in the Top 15 and the Toyota Hilux (+2%) enjoys a 2nd consecutive month inside the Mexican Top 10 whereas the VW Vento (-23.9%) and Nissan Kicks (-22%) deep dive. The Renault Kwid remains the best-selling new launch, up 10 spots on July to #30, above the VW Virtus up 172 to #38, the Suzuki Ertiga down 2 to #58 and the Peugeot Rifter up 34 to #109.
