Hong Kong (China) January-February 2019: Toyota sovereign in market up 12.9%

The new generation should allow the Toyota Hiace to remain a strong seller in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is back as a monthly brands update on BSCB, and we start the year catching up on both January and February. In January, the market soars 30.4% year-on-year to 3.478 units. Toyota (+105.5%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to cement its leadership with a whopping 30.9% share, more than double the #2 Mercedes (+3.1%) only managing a shy uptick. Honda (+119.8%), Porsche (+44.6%) and BMW (+39.7%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10 but all other manufacturers endure double-digit drops, Audi (-42%) being the hardest hit.

In February on the other hand, new light vehicle sales in Hong Kong drop -4.6% to 2.529 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 12.9% to 6.006. Toyota (+41.2%) swims upstream towards a 28.7% share, once again more than double any other carmaker in the territory. It is followed this time by Honda (-8.1%), Mercedes (-11.2%) and BMW (-14.3%) all in difficulty. Porsche (+20.8%), Nissan (+9.4%) and Lexus (+7.6%) are the other Top 10 brands in positive.
