Brazil April 2019: Jeep and Chery break records, Citroen (+55.2%) shines in market back up
Jeep signs a 2nd consecutive record volume month in Brazil.
After a freak -0.2% decline last month, Brazilian new car sales are back in frank positive in April at +5.4% to 221.321 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 8.7% to 801.330, the highest at this time of year since 2015 (860.262). Brand leaders Chevrolet (+12.3%), Volkswagen (+9.2%), Fiat (+7%) and Toyota (+9.5%) all outpace the market but below, Ford (-2.5%) and Renault (-4.9%) both lose ground. Jeep (+17.8%) posts an incredible 14th consecutive double-digit gain and eclipses the monthly volume record it established just last month by 23 units at 10.700. Citroen (+55.2%) is also in outstanding shape, scoring the 2nd largest uptick in the Top 20 after Chery (+489%) ranking #14 for the third straight month and reaching a new record volume at 1.449.
The Chevrolet Onix (+18.1%) once again outpace the market to sign a 45th consecutive monthly win (no interruption since August 2015), distancing the Hyundai HB20 (+8.1%) and Ford Ka (+0.1%) while just below, the Renault Kwid (+10.6%), VW Gol (+31.8%) and Fiat Argo (+38.1%) all post splendid year-on-year surges, as do the Jeep Renegade (+28.1%) and Ford Ka Sedan (+59.1%) at the tail end of the Top 10. The Toyota Yaris Sedan (#23) remains the most popular recent launch ahead of its Hatch variant (#25) but this month we welcome the VW T-Cross directly at #38, already totally over 2.000 Brazilian sales in its first two months in market. The Citroen C4 Cactus (#43), Chery Tiggo 5X (#64) and Tiggo 2 (#66) are the next best-selling new launches.
