Samoa Full Year 2018: Toyota holds 41.3% share, Hiace snaps lead in market up 13.9%

Samoa corresponds to the western part of the Samoan Islands, the Eastern part being American Samoa. It is home to 192.342 inhabitants, with the two main islands being Upolu – hosting the capital city Apia and the Faleolo International Airport – and Savai’i, one of the biggest islands in Polynesia.

New car sales in Samoa soar 13.9% year-on-year in 2018 to 443 registrations. Toyota (+22%) comfortably outpaces the market to see its share improve to 41.3% vs. 38.6% a year ago, leaving Ford (+3.3%) and Hyundai (+12.8%) well below at 28.7% and 27.8% respectively. Whereas the Ford Ranger was estimated to top the Samoan models ranking over the past few years, a 68.2% surge pushes the Toyota Hiace in the lead in 2018 with 16.7% share, while the Hilux’s stable sales see its share thaw to 12.9%.
