Czech Republic February 2019: Skoda Fabia leads, Peugeot (+35.8%) shines in 6th consecutive market decline
The Skoda Fabia is the best-seller at home in February.
It’s a 6th consecutive year-on-year drop in the Czech Republic with February registrations down 6.7% to 18.847 leading to a year-to-date tally down 12.2% to 38.125. Homegrown leader Skoda (+2.3%) defies the negative for the month but remains down 10.2% YTD, a situation replicated by Volkswagen up 7.4% this month but down 6.2% YTD. Dacia (-3.7%) climbs back onto the podium for the third time ever after February and October 2018, a ranking it now also holds YTD, taking advantage of dismal scores by Hyundai (-15%). Peugeot (+35.8%) is the largest gainers in the Top 15 just as Ford (-47.8%), Kia (-24.7%), Toyota (-18.9%) and Renault (-14.8%) all struggle. Further down, Lexus (+45%), Mitsubishi (+39.1%), Volvo (+34.3%), Jaguar (+14.3%) and Citroen (+13.4%) shine.
Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+9.5%) takes the overall lead for the third time in the past 7 months after last August and November, but remains #2 year-to-date below the Skoda Octavia (-15.5%) in difficulty this month. Below the Skoda Rapid (+16.8%) still benefiting from discount in the wake of its discontinuation, the Skoda Karoq (+32.3%) hits its highest ranking at home at #4, also reached in March 2018. The VW Tiguan (+101.7%) scores the largest gain in the Top 10 and is up 9 spots on January to #7, with the Dacia Duster (+67.1%) also very impressive and breaking into the Czech Top 5 for the first time since December 2017. The VW Polo (+196.2%), Peugeot 2008 (+96.7%), Toyota Auris (+55.4%), Hyundai Tucson (+47.6%), Skoda Citigo (+41.4%) and Renault Megane (+31.8%) also align very satisfying results further down.
