Malaysia October 2018: Perodua up 18% to 41.3% share in stabilising market
Perodua vastly outperforms its home market at +18% to 41.3% share.
The Malaysian new vehicle market is stabilising after a few month of turbulence due to the absence of GST in July and August, then replaced by the SST in September. October sales edge up 0.5% year-on-year to 47.273 units, sending the year-to-date tally up 6.2% to 502.244. Brand leader Perodua (+18%) smashes another stunning month at 41.3% share vs. 37.4% so far this year, annihilating its followers Honda (-20%) at 15.3%, Proton (+0.2%) at 10.8% and Toyota (-23%) at 10.1%. In the Top 20, Kia (+88%), Mazda (+64%), Nissan (+24%), Volvo (+15%) and Mini (+11%) perform best. The sales surge that was expected for Proton with the arrival of its first SUV, the X70 (a rebadged Geely Boyue) is yet to be seen.
