Indonesia October 2018: Toyota Avanza surges back to YTD lead
Last minute surge: the Toyota Avanza scores its third monthly win of 2018, enough for YTD #1.
The Indonesian new car market gains a splendid 12.4% year-on-year in October to 106.050 wholesales, meaning the year-to-date tally is now up 7.3% to 962.697. Toyota (+21%) posts an outstanding market share at 34.1% vs. 30.5% so far this year, distancing Daihatsu (+24%) also strong at 19.8% vs. 17.5% YTD. Honda (-8%) rounds up the podium at 14.6% ahead of Mitsubishi and Suzuki. Note Mitsubishi Fuso figures are counted separately this month. Just when we thought a shock annual win was secured for the Mitsubishi Xpander, the Toyota Avanza comes from behind to snap only its third monthly victory of the year after last January and June, but its advantage on the Xpander is such (3.950) that the Avanza shoots back up to the YTD top spot for 1.815 units. Nothing is certain anymore and we’ll have to wait until January to know the final winner for 2018. Meanwhile, the Toyota Innova (+18%) and Rush (+310%) join the Avanza on the podium to knock the Xpander down to #4, its lowest ranking in 2018. The Daihatsu Sigra (+17%) outsells its twin the Toyota Calya (-3%) to rank 5th, with twins Toyota Agya (+79%) and Daihatsu Ayla (+30%) also posting very strong scores.
