New car sales in Chile celebrate 30 consecutive months of year-on-year gains in October with a splendid +23.3% surge to 37.132 registrations, a new record for the month smashing the previous best of 34.175 established in 2012. This is also the 20the double-digit gain in the past 25 months, propelling the year-to-date tally up 19.5% to a record 348.539 units after 10 months, eclipsing the 305.857 units of 2013. Chevrolet (+31%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date, even though it is only its third monthly win since last April. Hyundai (+38%) and Suzuki (+61%), both in excellent shape, round up the podium while Mazda (+29%), Ford (+27%) and Mitsubishi (+23%) post the next best gains in the remainder of the Top 10 where Toyota (-13%) and Nissan (-11%) struggle. Further down, Opel (+293%), the Chrysler Group (+116%), Skoda (+100%), Citroen (+69%) and Mercedes (+69%) impress but once gain it’s Chinese manufacturers, all-in-all up 58% to 13% share, that lodge some of the most spectacular gains, with Brilliance (+145%), MG (+143%), Changan (+138%), JAC (+84%), the Great Wall Group (+55%), Chery (+38%), Dongfeng (+35%), Maxus (+31%) ZNA (+31%) and FAW (+29%) making themselves noticed.
Model-wise, the Chevrolet Sail is up two spots on September to take the lead this month ahead of the YTD leader, the Mitsubishi L200, the Kia Rio, the Toyota Hilux back up 10 ranks to #4 and the Kia Morning up 6 to #5. The Suzuki Baleno is up 10 spots to break into the Top 10 at #10 and the Chery Tiggo 2 is up two to #16.
