Colombia August 2018: Chevrolet & Renault disappoint, market up 2.5%

Colombian new vehicle sales in August gain 2.5% year-on-year to 21.444 registrations, lifting the year-to-date volume up 1.1% to 154.293. The top ranked brands do not follow the market however, with leaders Chevrolet (-8%) and Renault (-9%) in clear decline with Hyundai (-40%), Ford (-20%) and Nissan (-3%) also struggling in the Top 10. In contrast, Mazda (+37%) leaps up to third place overall while Toyota (+46%) and Volkswagen (+15%) also impress with Kia (+8%) and Suzuki (+4%) outpacing the market. Further down, notice Changan (+847%), Fiat (+556%), Jeep (+171%), Volvo (+84%), Honda (+66%), Dongfeng (+57%) and Mercedes (+29%) all posting spectacular gains.
Model-wise, the Renault Sandero (-18%) remains comfortably in the lead despite a hefty loss, ahead of the Kia Picanto (+16%) back up 3 spots on July to #3 and the Chevrolet Spark (-31%) imploding under the impact of the new Chevrolet Beat posting a second month in a row at #4. The Renault Logan (-10%) and Duster (+9%) follow while the Mazda2 (+103%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to #7. The Toyota Fortuner (+83%), Prado (+67%), Chevrolet Onix (+66%), Hyundai Grand i10 (+59%), Mazda CX-3 (+41%), Suzuki Swift (+39%), Nissan Kicks (+32%), Ford Ecosport (+27%) and Mazda CX-5 (+24%) also impress further down. The Chevrolet Equinox (#35), Changan Mini Van (#42) and Jeep Renegade (#47) are the other newcomers in the Top 50.
