The Bulgarian new car market leaps up 38% year-on-year in August to 4.052 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 21% to 29.237. Already heavily influenced by re-exports accounting for up to 30% of total sales, August results in Bulgaria are also biased by pre-WLTP stock clearing practices as per the rest of the European Union. Accordingly, Nissan (+445%) is up 5-fold on August 2017 to momentarily take the lead of the brands ranking with 16.7% share vs. 8.9% YTD, well ahead of Volkswagen (+188%) also artificially pushed to 10.7% vs. 7.4% so far this year. Dacia (-2%) is down one spot on June but remains on the podium at #3, distancing Skoda (+141%), Toyota (-5%) and Renault (-31%). Great Wall (+255%), Fiat (+227%), Mitsubishi (+214%), Suzuki (+200%), Honda (+167%), Porsche (+100%), Seat (+95%), Lada (+58%), Citroen (+36%) and Mercedes (+35%) also post extravagant gains.
