South Africa June 2018: Toyota, Renault, Volvo and Suzuki pull market up
The Kwid scores its second ever Top 10 finish in South Africa, helping Renault up 47%.

New vehicle sales in South Africa edge up 2.9% year-on-year in June to 46.678 registrations, meaning the year-to-date tally is now down by just 0.6% at 267.427 units. Toyota (+13%) sails off as the best-selling carmaker in the country with 25.3% share vs. 24% YTD, whereas the Volkswagen Group sinks 10% to 14.4% vs. 15.6%. Nissan (+21%), Hyundai-Kia (+14%) and Ford (-24%) round up the Top 5 with Volvo (+93%), Suzuki (+64%), Renault (+47%), Mahindra (+43%) and Jaguar Land Rover (+34%) among the most dynamic below. The Toyota Hilux (+25%) cements its leadership in the models ranking, seeing the Ford Ranger (-22%) skid down to over 1.300 sales below for the month. The VW Polo Vivo (-9%) is back up to the third place it holds YTD, ahead of the Nissan NP200 (+74%) and the VW Polo (-3%). The Renault Kwid is up 62% to score its first Top 10 finish of 2018 – and second ever after hitting #6 last December, with the Hyundai Creta (+1826%), Toyota Yaris (+281%), Renault Sandero (+140%) and Hyundai i20 (+92%) also impressive near the top. The pickup-based Isuzu MU-X lands directly at #44, becoming the most popular recent launch (<12 months) above the Volvo XC40 (#82) and Jaguar E-Pace (#93).
