According to data released by our local partner Promocija Plus, new car sales in Croatia soar 39% year-on-year to 5.738 registrations in July, lifting the year-to-date tally up 21.2% to 43.967. This is the largest monthly gain since… the +46.4% of last January, so although it’s tempting to attribute July’s surge to the World Cup effect we mentioned last month, we won’t be sure until the end of Q3. The Top 4 best-selling carmakers all outpace the market: Volkswagen is up 81% to an out-of-this-world 19.6% share leading to a YTD volume up 22% to 14.9%, Skoda is up 49%, Suzuki up 44% and 6 spots on June and Fiat up 230% and three spots on last month. Dacia (+78%), Peugeot (+76%) and Citroen (+48%) also overperform whereas Renault (-3%) disappoints. Further down, Subaru (+300%), Mitsubishi (+129%), Kia (+108%), Volvo (+85%), Nissan (+53%) and Porsche (+50%) impress. VW justifies its performance by placing six nameplates in the Top 20: the Golf (-0.3%) at #1, Polo (+256%) at #2, Tiguan (+361%) at #3, T-Roc at #12, Touran at #17 and Passat at #19. The Skoda Octavia (+49%) overtakes the Renault Clio (-11%) to snap the YTD top spot, with other great performers including the Fiat 500 (+457%), Dacia Logan (#7), Fiat 500L (#11), Skoda Fabia (+111%), Citroen C3 (+89%) and Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (+69%).
