Portugal May 2018: Renault Clio and Captur lead, Top 6 is 100% French

Renault places the Clio and Captur atop the Portuguese sales charts in May.

The Portuguese new car market posts its 2nd year-on-year decline of the year in May – just – at -0.1% to 23.634 registrations, yet the year-to-date volume remains vigorously in positive at +5.8% to 108.344. After a steep decline in April, brand leader Renault is back in solid shape at +10% to a very strong 16.2% share vs. 14.3% so far in 2018, with Peugeot (+5%) in tow and Fiat (-3%) up one spot to #3 despite losing ground year-on-year. Mercedes (+4%), Opel (+2%) and Citroen (+13%) follow and all beat the market whereas Nissan (-12%), BMW (-18%) and Volkswagen (-39%) struggle. Further down, Jeep (+1650%), Honda (+276%), Bentley (+200%), Alfa Romeo (+37%), Kia (+37%), Lexus (+32%), Dacia (+26%), Jaguar (+26%), Seat (+23%) and Ford (+21%) are the best performers. Model-wise, the Renault Clio (+4%) and Captur (+54%) dominate ahead of the Peugeot 208 (-24%), Renault Megane (-15%), Citroen C3 (+19%) and Peugeot 2008 (+23%), making the Top 6 100% French for the first time in Portuguese history. The Fiat 500 (+54%), Ford Focus (+30%), Mercedes A-Class (+21%) and Dacia Sandero (+20%) also shine in the Top 20. The Citroen C3 Aircross (#25) tops recent launches above the Seat Arona (#30) and Opel Crossland X (#35).
