After a one-year hiatus, Madagascar is back on BSCB. As is traditionally the case, only car sales statistics for the capital city Antananarivo are available, however these account for 95% of the country’s new car sales. We update both the Full Year 2016 and the First Half 2017 here as these are the most recent figures available for the country. New vehicle sales grow 26.3% in 2016 to 2.922 units and Nissan shoots up 160% to take the overall lead with 12.2% share ahead of Toyota up 40% to 11.1% and Renault up 51% to 10.2%. Toyota led in Q1, Nissan in Q2 and Q3 and Renault in Q4. Mitsubishi (-5%) and Hyundai (-8%) round up the Top 5 with Suzuki and Isuzu making their entrance at #9 and #10 respectively.

The market dives 43.1% over the First Half of 2017 to just 888 units and Toyota reclaims the market lead with 14.2% share and sales down just 27% ahead of Hyundai down 17% to 9.7%. Toyota held 19.4% in Q1 while Hyundai snapped the #1 spot in Q2 at 11.3%. Renault (-38%) comes in third place with 9.4% share above Mitsubishi (-44%) and Mazda (-51%) whereas the 2016 leader Nissan freefalls 68% to #6 followed by Citroen (-46%) and Ford (-57%). If in 2016 no Chinese manufacturer managed to crack the Madagascar Top 10, so far in 2017 JMC ranks 9th with an estimated 4% share thanks to a 5th place in Q2.
