Kazakhstan Full Year 2017: Toyota & Camry repeat at #1 in recovering market

Thanks to our partnership with autoconsulting.kz, we can share with you today 2017 sales data for Kazakhstan. After freefalling 40% in 2015 and 52% in 2016, pulling the market down from 163.561 units in 2014 to a paltry 46.715 in 2016, Kazakh new vehicle sales have painfully started to climb back the hill in 2017 at +5% to 49.076. Toyota remains the most popular carmaker in the country but trails the market slightly at +2%, resulting in a declining market share at 18.8%. Lada on the other hand beats the overall growth at +7% to 17.8% share, the two manufacturers holding a stable 36.6% share of Kazakhstan sales vs. 36.8% in 2016. Ravon, the replacement brand for defunct UZ-Daewoo, ends its first full year in market at a splendid third place with 9.4% share, very favourably comparing with the #7 and 5.1% UZ-Daewoo held back in 2015, its last full year of sales in the country. Hyundai (+3%) stays 4th while GAZ is up 17% to #5, overtaking Renault (-35%) and Kia (-29%), both falling heavily. Chinese Lifan is up 4-fold and 10 spots to #14, while Isuzu (+143%), Ssangyong (+139%), Audi (+98%), Subaru (+72%), Mercedes (+70%), Chevrolet (+69%) and BMW (+68%) are among the biggest gainers for the year.

The Toyota Camry is the best-selling vehicle in Kazakhstan for the second year running, evolving like the market at +5% to an unchanged 6.8% share. It is followed this time by the Lada 4×4 (aka Niva), still valiant despite its 30 years of age and up 35% and two spots to 6.2% share, knocking the GAZ Gazelle (+16%) down one rank to #3. The Ravon Nexia R3 shoots up 8-fold to #4 for its first full year in market and topped the sales charts in November. The Largus (+151%) distances the Granta (-6%), the Toyota RAV4 (+23%) and the Ravon R4, best-selling all-new launch for 2014 at #8. Further down, notice the Hyundai Creta up 599% to #14 and the Lada Vesta up 333% to #15 both for their first full year of sales, with the Hyundai Tucson shooting up 5-fold #18 and the Lada XRAY landing at #25 while the Lifan X60 (#26), JAC S3 (#33) and Lifan X50 (#50) the best-selling Chinese nameplates.
