Poland Full Year 2017: Skoda Fabia leads for second time in ten years

The Skoda Fabia is the best-selling vehicle in Poland for the first time since 2013.

The Polish new car market soars 14% in 2017 to 542.276 registrations including light commercials. Skoda remains the most popular carmaker in the country, beating the market with a 17% increase to 11.6% share whereas Volkswagen loses sone due to a 12% uplift to 9.8%. In contrast, Toyota surges 25% to 9.6% and ends the year only  920 units below the German automaker. Renault (+13%) overtakes Ford (+1%) to #4, Fiat (+2-%) remains at #7, Dacia (+24%) passes Kia (+17%) to #8 while Mercedes (+23%) and BMW (+25%) also impress and Citroen breaks into the Top 15, replacing Mazda.

The Fiat Tipo lands at #12 for its first full year on the Polish market.

In the models ranking, the Skoda Fabia (+25%) manages to snap the annual top spot off the Skoda Octavia (+11%) and ranks #1 for only the second time in the past ten years alongside 2013. It is the sixth time the Fabia is the best-seller in Poland after also ranking first in 2003 and from 2005 to 2008. In comparison, the Octavia ranked first seven times between 2009 and 2016. Below, the Opel Astra (+7%), VW Golf (+5%) and Toyota Yaris (+11%) hold onto their respective rankings while the Ford Focus (+11%) overtakes the Toyota Auris (+1%), the Renault Clio leaps 40% and 6 spots to #8 and the Dacia Duster gains 15% to #9 and best-selling SUV. The Fiat Tipo is an instant blockbuster in Poland, ranking at #12 for its first full year in market while the Toyota C-HR jumps to #19 in the same timeframe. Notice also the VW Tiguan (+32%), Dacia Sandero (+44%) and Volvo XC60 (+55%) posting very strong improvements.
