Excellent year for new light vehicle sales in Poland: up 17% on 2015 to 475.738 units including LCVs. Traditionally very stable, the Polish brands ranking makes no exception in 2016 with the Top 8 best-seller in the exact same order as last year. Skoda (11.3% share) and Volkswagen (10%) both gain slightly more ground than the market at +18%, increasing the gap with their followers Toyota (+14%), Opel (+17%) and Ford (+15%). Renault (+22%), Dacia (+29%), Mercedes (+31%), BMW (+31%) and Mazda (+20%) also beat the market inside the Top 15.
The Skoda Octavia remains the best-selling nameplate in the country thanks to sales up 19% to 16.967, reaching #1 for the third year in a row and the 7th time overall, a reign it started in 2009, only interrupted in 2013 by the Skoda Fabia. Speaking of which, the Fabia gains 25% to get closer to pole position at 15.483 but the most impressive growth in the Top 10 is delivered by the Opel Astra up 39% to overtake the VW Golf and land on the podium at 14.819 sales. It even ranked #1 in December. The VW Passat is up two spots to #8, the Dacia Duster up 4 and 32% to slide into the Top 10 at #10, the Nissan Qashqai up 21%, Renault Master up 20% and Hyundai Tucson up 220% to end its first full year in market at #15.
Other great gainers in 2016 in Poland include the Skoda Superb (+56%), Iveco Daily (+57%), Renault Megane (+29%), VW Tiguan (+53%), Mercedes Sprinter (+53%), Dacia Sandero (+46%), Renault Captur (+39%) and VW Golf Sportsvan (+53%) while the Fiat Tipo is the most popular all-new nameplate in the country, landing directly at #47 and peaking at #19 in November.
