The Bulgarian new car market continues to grow at +20.1% in 2017 to 36.508 registrations. A caveat to this is that Bulgarian sales figures are skewed by re-exports to other European Union countries, with a large portion of new car sales in the country never making it to local roads – as much as 30% – thanks to Bulgaria displaying some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. In this context the Renault Group maintain its stranglehold on the market with Dacia leading once again thanks to sales up 19% to 11.7% share ahead of Renault up 5% to 10.2%. Toyota gains 23% and climbs one spot to #3 but the best performance in the Top 10 is without a doubt delivered by Kia at +63% to 8.1% share, only 15 units short of a podium ranking for the year. The Korean manufacturer ranked #6 last year.

The Dacia Dokker celebrates five years at #1 in Bulgaria.

In the remainder of the Top 10, Peugeot (+33%), Volkswagen (+33%) and Skoda (+24%) also outpace the market. Further down, DS (+267%), Volvo (+204%), Subaru (+167%), Alfa Romeo (+163%), Maserati (+100%), Jeep (+91%), Suzuki (+67%) and Lexus (+53%) and all post spectacular gains. Model-wise, the Dacia Dokker celebrates five consecutive years in pole position, beating the market at +25% to 5.7% share, and followed this time by the Renault Clio up 63% and two spots to #2. The Nissan Qashqai (+6%) is relegated to third place after two years at #2 with the Skoda Octavia (+7%) also down one rank to #4. The Renault Captur (+32%) remains in 5th place, the Dacia Duster and Sandero exchange positions at #6 and #7, the Kia Cee’d is up 12 spots, more than doubling its deliveries vs. 2016 and the Skoda Fabia and Toyota Corolla round up the Top 10.
