Belarus Full Year 2017: VW Polo #1 for 5th straight year, Geely up to #12

New car sales in Belarus surge 30.6% in 2017 to a record-breaking 34.607 units, with Renault managing to stay above 30% share at +24% to 30.2%. Volkswagen advances 26% to 16.2% while Lada frankly outpaces the market with a 61% gain to 10.1% share, remaining in third place. Nissan (+13%) overtakes Skoda (+6%) for 4th place while GAZ (+62%), Kia (+72%) and Hyundai (+100%) all post spectacular gains to pass Toyota (-35%). Ford (+39%) steps inside the Top 10 and BMW is up 127% and five spots to #11. 2017 is the year of Chinese carmakers in Belarus: their deliveries are up 6-fold from 179 to 1.129%, going from 0.7% share to 3.3%. Geely relaunches and lands directly at #12 with 1.4% share, Lifan arrives at #16 with 1% while Chery is up 54% to #19. Dongfeng (+67%) and Haval (+733%) also progress but only sell 25 units each and Changan has its first 14 sales.

The VW Polo is the best-selling vehicle in Belarus for the 5th consecutive year but sees its market share thaw from 13% last year to 11.3% due to sales up “only” 14%. In 2nd place, the Renault Sandero advances a little faster at +19% to 10.1%. Renault places an incredible four nameplates in the Top 5 with the Logan (+30%) up one spot to #3 above the Duster (-21%) and Kaptur (+223%) inside the Top 5 for its first full year in market. The Kia Sportage (+118%), Hyundai Creta (+264%) and GAZ Next (+110%) all storm into the Top 10 while further down the Lada Niva (+53%), Vesta (+88%), VW Tiguan (+121%) and T5 (+146%) all post spectacular gains. From none in 2016, the Top 35 models now feature three Chinese nameplates: the Geely Atlas (#31), Chery Tiggo 3 (#33) and Geely Emgrand X7 (#35).
