It’s a solid year of sales for the new car market in Austria, up 7.2% to 353.320 units in 2017. Volkswagen remains by far the most popular carmaker in the country but sees its share thaw from 17.2% to 16.6% due to a modest 4% year-on-year gain. Skoda on the other hand leaps up 19% and one spot to land in second place, knocking Opel (-6%) down to #3. Ford (+8%), Renault (+5%) and Hyundai (+18%) all climb up the ladder to round up the Top 6, while among the premium German only Mercedes (+12%) posts a positive result at #8, with BMW (-2%) and Audi (-13%) both going downwards. Seat (+14%) is up one spot to #9. Outside the Top 10, notice Lamborghini (+106%), Lada (+73%), Toyota (+43%), Lexus (+38%), Alfa Romeo (+32%), Suzuki (+30%), Tesla (+26%), Ssangyong (+25%), Peugeot (+17%), Bentley (+16%) and Dacia (+16%) all frankly beating the market.

Over in the models ranking, the VW Golf signs a 41st consecutive year in pole position with sales up 7% resulting in an unchanged market share at 4.8%. Note the Golf has now topped the Austrian monthly charts for 62 consecutive months, with the last time it was not #1 being in October 2012 (VW Tiguan). This is also the Golf’s first year-on-year gain in Austria since 2014. The Top 5 best-sellers are unchanged on 2016: the Skoda Octavia (+10%) takes second spot ahead of the VW Tiguan (+9%), Polo (+8%) and Skoda Fabia (+17%) all with either stable or improving shares. Just below, the VW Bus (+16%), Hyundai i20 (+22%) and Seat Ibiza (-1%) all overtake the Opel Astra (-14%) while the Fiat 500 (+4%) gains five spot to round up the Top 10. The Ford Kuga (+107%), Fiat Tipo (+119%), Hyundai i30 (+77%), Seat Ateca (+155%), BMW 5 Series (+108%), Mercedes GLC (+46%) and Citroen C3 (+55%) also impress in the Top 50. The Skoda Kodiaq (#63) and Opel Crossland X (#79) are the only all-new launches making it into the Austrian Top 100 in 2017.
