Algeria Full Year 2017: Dacia Sandero edges past Renault Symbol to #1

The Dacia Sandero is the new best-seller in Algeria…

Consult 14 years worth of Algerian Historical Data here

Updated with official total market, Renault/Dacia, Sandero and Logan sales.

There is no official detailed information about the Algerian new car market since January 2016. In bid to reduce the imported cars bill, the Algerian government introduced import quotas in 2016 (98.000) but did not deliver a single import license in 2017. This means that in essence you need to be producing in the country to be able to sell new cars in Algeria. Only 7.453 new cars were imported into the country over the first 11 months of the year (those were ordered in 2016 as part of the import quotas) vs. 53.292 over the same period in 2016. A total of 18.035 vehicles (including trucks and other commercial vehicles) were imported over the period in 2017 vs. 74.088 a year prior.

…stepping past the Renault Symbol.

The only official market data for 2017 counts 98.670 units, down 16.5% on 2016. Renault/Dacia, the main local producer in Algeria since the opening of its Oued Tlélat factory in November 2014, holds a commanding 62.8% market share thanks to 61.922 sales. The Dacia Sandero Stepway, which kick-started local production in September 2016, is the new best-seller in Algeria for 2017 with 30.704 units, edging just past the Renault Symbol at 30.515. Renault Algeria announces 83.000 Symbol sales since the start of local production in 2014.

  1. Interesting future for the Algerian market, apparently, at the sight of the VAG investment for local assembly of CKD’s Golf, Octavia, Leon, Arona and Ibiza.
By the way, is it not possible to post any comments in other articles? I used to enjoy Rick M’s opinions. And giving mine… 😉
