The Mexican new light vehicle market continues to backtrack, posting a sixth month of decline in the past seven at -9.5% in October to 124.353 registrations, pulling the year-to-date volume down 2.1% to 1.230.266 units. The Top four best-selling carmakers fall faster than the market: Nissan plunges 23% to 21.9% share, Chevrolet is down 11% to 17.3%, Volkswagen down 10% to 12.6% and Toyota also down 10% to 6.2%. In contrast, Mazda (+2%) and Renault (+4%) gain ground but it’s the recently launched Korean sister brands that post the most spectacular performances this month. Kia is up 26% to hit its highest ever monthly volume at 7.603, beating the previous high of 7.503 posted last month. It is the 8th time Kia breaks its monthly volume record in Mexico in the past 12 months. Hyundai also breaks its volume record for the third consecutive month at 4.303 (previous best: 4.100 last month) and hits its highest ever market share at 3.5%, also hit last month. It is the 7th time Hyundai breaks its all-time volume record in the past 12 months. Further down, a handful of brands also have a great month, including Mitsubishi (+32%), GMC (+35%), Mercedes (+37%), Suzuki (+40%), Jeep (+42%), Subaru (+45%) and Isuzu (+53%).

Over in the models ranking, the Nissan Versa (-22%) and Pickup (-19%) remain on top despite heavy falls, while the Chevrolet Beat establishes itself on the podium, now only 15 sales off the #2 overall spot, General Motors has hit the bullseye with the Beat in Mexico. The VW Vento (-23%) and Chevrolet Aveo (-25%) round up the Top 5 but are both in freefall, while the Nissan March (+7%) and most strikingly the Kia Rio (+82%) are the only two nameplates in positive in the Top 10.
