Thailand September 2017: Isuzu D-Max soars, Toyota Yaris Ativ up to #4

The Toyota Yaris Ativ is the best-selling passenger car in Thailand in September.

The Thai new vehicle market shoots up 21.9% year-on-year in September to 77.592 registrations, lifting the year-to-date volume up 11.5% to 620.712 units. Brand leader Toyota struggles at -7% to 26.6% share, whereas the rest of the Top 8 brands all lodge gains of 21% or more: Isuzu is up 61% to 21.6% vs. 19.1% so far this year, Honda is up 21% to 13.7%, Mitsubishi up 25% to 7.2%, Nissan up 94% to 6.7%, Ford up 33% to 6.4%, Mazda up 23% to 5.7% and Suzuki up 33% to 2.8%. Further down, notice BMW up 31%, Hino up 52%, MG up 42%, Hyundai up 31%, Kia up 32%, Scania up 64% and Volkswagen up 2950% (!).

In the models ranking, the Isuzu D-Max continues to impress with deliveries surging 74% to 18.6% share just as its archenemy the Toyota Hilux dives 17% to 11.2% share. The D-Max increases its advantage over the Hilux to a staggering 21.241 units after nine months and is now almost assured to snap the annual lead for the first time in 12 years. The performance of the month is delivered by the newly launched Toyota Yaris Ativ up 15 spots on its inaugural month in August to land in 4th place with 4.3% share. Unfortunately, the Yaris (-65%) and Vios (-78%) are hit full frontal by this new arrival. Other models posting spectacular gains this moth include the Mazda2 (+40%), Honda Jazz (+33%), Nissan Navara (+112%), Toyota Commuter (+202%) and Honda CR-V (+255%).
