South Africa September 2017: Toyota Hilux up 30% in market up 7%
The Toyota Hilux holds just under 8% of the South African market in September.

The South African new vehicle market posts a 4th consecutive month of year-on-year gains in September at +7% to 50.675 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 1.3% to 416.206 units. Toyota remains the most popular manufacturer in the country but trails the market at +3%, as does the Volkswagen Group at #2 and +0.2%. On the other hand Ford (+8%) and Hyundai-Kia (+9%) beat the market slightly. Nissan continues to obliterate the competition with a 75% surge to 10.1% share in 5th place, with Renault the only other manufacturer managing a double-digit gain in the Top 10 at +35%. General Motors/Isuzu (-24%) and the BMW Group (-12%) struggle. Further down, Iveco (+58%), Suzuki (+84%) and Great Wall (+664%) show outstanding health.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux cements its lead further with a 30% year-on-year gain leading to a 7.9% market share vs. 6.6% so far this year. The VW Polo Vivo (+4%), Ford Ranger, VW Polo (-4% both) and Toyota Corolla (-10%) round up the Top 5 above three high performing nameplates: the Nissan NP200 (+61%), Ford Fiesta (+22%) and Isuzu KB (+46%). The Kia Picanto (+76%), Nisan NP300 Hardbody (+61%), Kia Rio (+60%), Datsun Go (+75%), Ford Everest (+440%) and Ford Figo (+152%) also post spectacular gains, while the Renault Kwid (#16), Hyundai Creta (#28), Suzuki Ignis (#75) and Opel Mokka X (#81) dominate recent launches (<12 months).
