Ukraine July 2017: Sportage cements domination in market up 32% YTD

The Kia Sportage is the best-selling vehicle in Ukraine both in July and YTD.

The Ukrainian new car market is back on BSCB, confirming it is on the mend with July sales up a solid 16% year-on-year to 6.425 registrations. This leads to a year-to-date total up a reassuring 32% to 43.302 units. This score is up 95% on the same period in 2015 but down 33% on 2014 and down 65% on 2013. In the brands ranking, Toyota confirms it is now the preferred manufacturer in Ukraine, up 30% in July to 11.3% share, distancing Renault up 55% to 10.1%. Skoda (+37%) and Kia (+51%) follow while Volkswagen freefalls 40% to #5 but ranks 4th year-to-date. Nissan (+41%) and Mazda (+52%) also impress inside the Top 10 while Ford (-26%) is in difficulty. Below, Audi (+34%), Suzuki (+38%), Mitsubishi (+63%), Fiat (+120%), Honda (+122%), Porsche (+143%) Seat (+200%), Infiniti (+200%) and Chery (+218%) post the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 30 for the month. Ravon, replacing UZ-Daewoo, lands at #13 and places the R2 at #14 in July while the R4 ranks 25th.

Model-wise, the Kia Sportage cements the overall leadership it snapped last year, even widening the gap with its followers by gaining 70% in July and 88% year-to-date. The Skoda Octavia (+28%) lands 2nd in July but ranks 3rd so far in 2017 below the Renault Logan (+47%), down to #4 this month. The Renault Duster shoots up 91% to #3 in July just as the 2nd generation is about to be unveiled. Other great performers in the July Top 10 include the VW Polo (+67%), Hyundai Tucson (+71%), Mazda CX-5 (+95%) and Nissan Qashqai (+127%). Outside, notice the Skoda Rapid up 83%, the Nissan X-Trail up 94% and the Suzuki SX4 up 328%: the largest July year-on-year gains in Ukraine are almost monopolised by SUVs. Below the two Ravon mentioned above, the Skoda Kodiaq is the best-selling newcomer in July at #32, distancing the Toyota C-HR (#44), Hyundai Creta (#54) and Kia Niro (#110). The Chery Tiggo (#27) is the only Chinese nameplate in the Top 100.
