The plateauing of the Mexican market in 2017 is getting another strong signal this month: the Mexican new car market declines for the second time in the past three months in June at -5.3% to 127.419 registrations, the largest year-on-year drop since the -8% of April 2014. This is only the third year-on-year monthly decline for the Mexican market in the past 40 months. The year-to-date tally halfway through 2017 remains at the record level of 743.105 units, up 2.9% or 21.203 sales on the same period in 2016. Market leaders Nissan (-8%) and Chevrolet (-29%) fare much worse than the overall decline but maintain their market shares at 24.2% and 15.8% respectively. Volkswagen is up 0.2% to 13.5% and Toyota up 0.3% to 6.2%. Kia (+42%) manages both the largest jump in the Top 10 and a third stint inside the Top 5 in the past five months with 5.8% share, distancing Honda (+6%) and Ford (-14%). Mazda (+12%) and Hyundai (+20%) shine. Outside the Top 10, Mini (+16%), Peugeot (+18%), Buick (+24%), GMC (+25%), Suzuki (+47%), Fiat (+52%), Mercedes (+53%), Subaru (+59%) and Smart (+179%) are the most dynamic. Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (+22%) holds onto the top spot ahead of the Chevrolet Spark (-30%) and Nissan Pickup (+5%). The Honda CR-V (+82%), Kia Rio (+89%) and Toyota Hilux (+49%) post the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 25 and we welcome the Chevrolet Beat at #75.
