Jordan First Half 2017: Hyundai and Kia both climb above Toyota

The Jordanian new car market slows down its fall over the First Half of 2017 at -3% to 21.606 registrations, with Korean brands confirming they are now the hot ticket in town. After Hyundai overstepped Toyota over the first four months of the year, it is now the turn of Kia to do so halfway through 2017. As a result, Hyundai (+12%) now holds 27.2% of the Jordanian market above Kia (+28%) holding 22.7% and Toyota (-32%) at 21.1%. These three brands account for a whopping 71% of all Jordanian car sales over the period. Lexus (+19%), BMW (+19%), Chevrolet (+60%) and most impressively Land Rover (+193%) also shine within the Top 10. Beyond, let’s notice Audi (+28%), Volkswagen (+32%), Honda (+75%), Porsche (+80%), GMC (+157%) and Ram (+460%) all posting spectacular gains.

The models ranking gets reshuffled once again with different leaders even compared to two months ago. The Kia Frontier takes the overall lead thanks to deliveries up 60% to an imposing 11.8% market share, and is followed by the Hyundai Elantra up 51% to 10.4%. Leader over the Full Year 2016 and after four months this year, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-15%) drops to third place overall halfway though 2017, still holding a robust 10.2% market share. Below, the Hyundai Sonata is up 5-fold on the same period in 2016 to jump to fourth place and 8.8% share. No other nameplate manages 5% share, with the Mitsubishi Lancer EX (+26%), Kia Sorento (+118%) and Lexus LX (+50%) the most dynamic inside the Top 10. The Hyundai Ioniq is by far the most popular newcomer, landing directly at #12. The next best ranked is the Kia Niro (#38). Finally, let’s single out the Range Rover up a staggering 9-fold year-on-year (+821%) to break into the Jordanian Top 20.
